SELECTION AND SPECIFICATION OF A Zonex Enclosure TO MEET YOUR APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

nVent Hoffman ZONEX™ enclosures are designed for hazardous locations, specifically for increased safety (Ex e) applications in Zone 1 and Zone 2 areas, meeting the requirements of the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC and IECEx standards. These enclosures are made of 316L & 304 stainless steel and come in both hinge-cover and screw-cover models. They are not intended for explosion-proof or flame-proof (Ex d) applications.

Key Features:

  • Material: Type 316L & 304 stainless steel with a #4 brushed finish.
  • Construction: Welded-on mounting brackets, continuous gasket seal on door and gland plates, and hardware for bonding provisions.
  • Certifications: ATEX, IECEx, and AEx certified (hinge cover models) and ATEX and IECEx certified (screw cover models). Also UL / CSA / IP66 approvals.
  • Applications: Designed for housing electrical components in hazardous areas like petroleum and chemical processing, water treatment, pharmaceutical processing, and grain processing.
  • Accessories: Gland plates, panels, security inserts, and other accessories are available for customization.
  • Temperature Range: -40°C to +70°C – T5/T6 standard with polyurethane gasket. Temperature - T3/T4 standard with silicone gasket from -55°C to +180°C was approved.
  • Internal/External Bonding: 10-mm brass internal/external bonding provision.
  • Latch: Type 316L stainless steel quarter-turn latch with slotted insert.

Important Considerations:

  • Not for Ex d applications:
    ZONEX enclosures are not suitable for explosion-proof or flame-proof applications.
  • Customization:
    A wide array of customization options are available, including material changes, size changes, paint options, hole and cutout modifications, and more. An increase in the maximum height, width and depth dimensions; height (260-2289mm), width (260-927mm for single door or per door for multi-door option) and depth (125-916mm) was approved.
  • Increased Safety:
    The "increased safety" protection (Ex e) is suitable for environments where the risk of explosion is reduced due to design features and safety measures.
